How would I find the best GPS system? Thinking of doing this for DH for Christmas.

I would google GPS System Reviews- or try Consumer Reports.

Here's one I found by Googling:

FWIW, I know my DH researched at one time and the best are reportedly made by Tom Tom.

I agree with the PP my totally techie DH really wants a Tom Tom go- but says they are still too expensive. He ended up getting a cheaper brand for now- I'll ask him tonight which one it is and if he likes it. I know he has been researching them a while. :)

Good luck!

After a lot of research, DH got a Garmin a couple of months ago and loves it. I can email you the Consumer Reports review, if you'd like.

Costco had great prices at the time.

Thanks! Most of those models are a bit more than I wanted to pay, but there is good info there.

That would be so great. DH just started showing interest in the Magellan at Costco. I don't know if it is any good or not.

i'm a total navigational moron, i'm talking geographically dense here, and i love love love my tom tom 'go'. DH got it for me for xmas last year and it is a total lifesaver (i think it was one of those self serving gifts, b/c when i used to get lost, i used to call him on my cell and make him look up where i was on google maps and talk me to wherever i was going - now i just touch a few buttons on the tom tom and i'm home free).

we got my parents the new tom tom 'one' for xmas for this year - it was on sale plus an additional $100 in store rebate at my frys electronics last weekend. it was a steal. we had already decided to go with the tom tom 'brand' since the UI (user interface) is so easy to use and i've had such a smooth time learning to use mine.

i haven't used the new garmin or magellan equivalents, but my husband has had older models of garmin street pilots and currently has a magellan explorist for mountian biking and the UI's on both are cumbersome and not very intuitive according to him, which is why he went with the tom tom for me last year.

anyway, hth, lori

Christy-

My father bought the Best Buy "day after Thanksgiving" GPS deal - it was a Magellan. Well, it already broke on him after a few weeks! Best Buy took it back and he went with a Garmin for about $50 more. He loves it much better! HTH :)
