View Full Version : Alternatives to Monogramming?

I screwed up...maybe someone can help me fix it?

I was supposed to have two caps monogrammed for my grandmother - they're for my uncles, kind of a joke gift, and it was supposed to be done by Christmas. Well, I forgot. And grandma's p!ssed.

Of course, there's not a single place around that's still taking orders. So I was wondering if there was any way I could get the words on the caps myself...like, are there rub-on or iron-on letters for fabrics? Where would I get such a thing? I'm kind of clueless when it comes to this sort of thing (crafts are not my thing). Should I just go wander around Hobby Lobby or Michael's and see what I can come up with?

I'd appreciate any suggestions! TIA!

If you can get the caps flat enough you might be able to do a printed iron on transfer. That is the easiest thing I can think of....

Is there a kiosk in a local mall that has monogramming? A lot of times they will do it while you wait. They have a computer that they type it into and then it just has the machine do it in a few minutes. Otherwise, you can go to any fabric store (or even Walmart) and get iron-on letters. They are really simple to use. Sorry this is turning into such a mess, but I am sure you can pull something together!

i've seen iron on embroidered letters in michaels. they come in block letters (like on a college logo) and script letters. they're in the aisle with all the t-shirts, aprons, fabric paints, iron on ink jet printer transfers, etc. at my michaels. you'll probably have to roll up a towel and tie it with some string to give you a curved surface to stick inside the hats to iron on, but i think it's doable.

When we were kids, my grandmother took some stuff to a bowling alley pro shop to have it monogrammed. It was the only place that really did that kind of stuff way back when. Maybe try there??

My first thought was the mall kiosk. However, if you're not near a mall, or your local mall doesn't have the embroidery kiosk, that won't work.

HOWEVER - what about dimensional fabric paint? It's readily available, inexpensive, easy (mostly) to use, comes in a ton of colors, and looks almost as nice as embroidered stuff. Most of the iron-on lettering I've seen is kind of big, so depending on what you needed to say, there might not be room. Also, I think last I looked they were over $1 a letter, so might get kinda pricey.

HTH - Lord knows it's not good to make Grandma p!ssed.

try things remembered (mall kiosk). See if they can help you avoid the rath of grandma.

As PPs have suggested, try the mall. I was just there yesterday and only noticed them because when I was buying a hat for my brother, someone asked about embroidering. The guy in the store mentioned the kiosks. I walked out in the mall and noticed several of them with no wait. If you can go in the morning before the weekend, I bet you could get actual embroidering (although not by hand) and Grandma will be so happy and surprised!

Good Luck!
