I took DS to the dollar store and told him he could buy Daddy some Christmas presents. He picked a pen, flashlight, ice scraper, and a majic baton that makes funny noises when shaken. I did veto the dog bowl (no dogs here) and a plastic paper towel holder. He had a good time finding things. I plan to do this each year to give him some ownership of daddy presents.

We went to Target to get a present for his sister. I gave him a few choices, based on what I think she'd like and what we don't have. But, he picked something else out on his own and I think it'll be good. It's under the tree already - not wrapped yet, but under there.

It should be fun to see DH's face when he opens DS's presents to him!

So far, he is keeping it a secret. He's only 2.5, so he sort of forgets when it's out of sight, still. I hid the bag and he hasn't mentioned it. Also, I'm not positive how much he gets that the presents are from him on Christmas, etc. I think he'll get it more on Monday.

My neighbor told me about the dollar store thing and her son in 4. She currently has a Butterfinger candy bar hidden in her sock drawer. Her DS thought that was the best hiding place from dad :).

That's really sweet.

DS has consistently replied "backhoe" when I ask him what he wants to buy DH. The last time I asked him he said "backhoe, daddy share." Don't think he's quite got the idea to get a gift the receipient would want. He picked out for his Little Gym teacher an airplane ornament and m&m candy canes for his favorite non-family people - the garbage man and the (re)cycle man.

That's so sweet!

When I was a kid one of the department stores had a special room so kids could go buy gifts for their parents. My mom took me there after she got divorced, and I remember really wanting to get her a doll tea set. The lady in charge steered me away from it, and instead I got her these funky knit gloves with different colored fingers, which she loved (and I later lost :(). It was *so* hard not to tell her what I had gotten, but I was also so proud that I had picked something out myself for her.

Everytime I ask DS1 what he thinks Daddy would want he says "He would like those Shake n' Go cars like they have at Target". :-)

I may have to go to the dollar store - that is a great idea!

Too cute. :) DD's really enjoyed Xmas shopping too. I had her decorate the cards we sent to family with stickers she chose herself. She was very excited about sharing Nemo(stickers) with her loved ones.
