Not really involved in the art community although I do like
to think of myself as a creative person. :)
But, how do I find local artists?? Thanks!

Does your town have an artist guild? Or if you call a local art supply store they could give a tip, as well as calling the local galleries. Also hit some of the art festivals, lots of info there found, and you can ask around.

In our area, we have the local Artscape, which attracts not only local artists, but also artists from as far away as FL or NM. But we also have local art galleries, pottery schools/studios, smaller art and craft shows, etc. Any of those places would be a good way to find out about local artists.

local coffee and tea shops (not starbucks)tend to have showings and know of people.
look for flyers in whole foods
galleries (but they usually take a cut off the top)
craft fairs (these may be more commercialised)
local restaurants may also have flyers.
Good luck.

Use the geolocator on www.etsy.com. By the way, don't start browsing etsy unless you have tons of time!

You're in RI right?
Check out RISD (RI School of Design) for new and upcoming artists.

Hey Corie, here are some suggestions:

1) Look in the local entertainment newspaper for art fairs
2) Go to gallerys and get on their mailing lists (email or snail mail)
3) Join the local museum(s)
4) Ask where the local artist studios are located. Usually artists tend to rent studio space in one big area or warehouse etc..
5) keep a look out for food and wine festivals they tend to have artists as well.

I did this and now I am on several artists mailing lists etc.. i go to private gallery showings and sales. I was also involved in several museum boards for a while.

Good luck.. i love discovering a new city and new artists.
