I've been away for so long that now I'm going into hyper posting mode. Sorry! So, is there a holiday season commercial out there that you just love so much that you actually look forward to it every year and watch it every time it's on -- like you actually go back on the Tivo when you see it pass by? Mine are:

* The Chex Mix commercial with the little 1968 home movie of a family gathering narrated by the little girl featured in the home movie with her mom being the perfect hostess. I love that commercial; it's not that classic, as it's only a few years old, but I love it. It's timeless.

* The Hershey's kisses bells. Whew!

* And my #1, the Maxwell House commercial where this college guy is being dropped off from college break at his house by a VW bug (the old ones) in the wee hours of Xmas morning and the snow outside is just everywhere, and his baby sister (?) is on the stairs thrilled to see "Peter" and says "Everyone's asleep!" to which he replies, "I know how to wake 'em up." And they go make coffee, and she smells in the coffee, and then everyone wakes up to the smell of the coffee and the mom comes down the stairs to see Peter and the little girl with coffee on a tray, and the mom says on the verge of tears, "Peter!" Cuz the best part of waking up on Xmas morning is Folgers in your cup. Or Maxwell house being good to the last drop. I dunno. All I know is I cry like a baby every time. Loser.

hmm,

well, i do like the hershey bells, but other than that, i'm drawing a blank. i do know of one i HATE this year... the one for BMW where the little boy opens up some gift under the tree and has a spaz attack, jumping around yelling YES! YES! YES! because he got some toy he's been wanting and they refer to getting a new BMW for the holidays to being 'just like when you were a kid, again" or some such. i don't know why, but i find that commercial exceedingly obnoxious. and i like BMW's. otherwise, non holiday LMAO everytime, rewind the tivo to see if there is a new installment is the got milk? Da-IRY commercials. too funny - i guess i must have a pretty warped sense of humor or something.

Ditto the Maxwell House/Folgers commercial. I was coming into this thread to post the very same thing. I just think it's also somewhat "timeless" that they haven't updated the commercial in umpteen years. The actors still all have the cheesy 80's (or was it 70's?) hairstyles and clothing. And I still LOVE it because to me, it's the essence of what the holidays are all about.

My second favorite commercial would be the Budweiser Clydesdale horses trotting around in the snow. Maybe it's because I live in CA, so we don't get snow during Christmas. I've always imagined it to be so romantic, beautiful, and cozy to have a snowy Christmas, opening presents by the roaring fire while sipping hot cocoa. And I would love to someday go on a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow, snuggling with my honey under a red plaid flannel blankie. LOL, I don't know where my brain comes up with these images!

The one with the Mac and PC guys exchanging gifts. The PC hopes it's a "C++ Programmers Manual" (or something like that) and is disappointed that it's a photo album created by Mac. Cracks me up each time because DH is super-geek and we HAVE a C++ Programmers Manual on our kitchen counter... and I'm sure he'd love another.

I know, not exactly timeless and traditional. :-)

I love that commercial! Before reading your post I could not remember what they were trying to sell so I must ignore the BMW part. I can remember my brother doing the exact same thing when he got Merlin. It brings back a nice memory for me.

I'm a sucker for the Coke Polar Bears. DH always gets a chuckle out of the concept of the penguins and the bears being so loving at Xmas because if it was National Geographic, the bears would be washing down the penguin with a nice coke and big, bloody smile.

I like the Folgers one too.

I think it's for DIrt Devil (or some other similar vacuum). All I remember off the top of my head is a big basket full of golden retriever puppies, falling over eat other, knocking things over (one of them being a potted plant). Then you see a Santa hand (white glove, edge of sleeve) come in and vacuum it up.

I love, love, love the Maxwell House one. And the Chex Mix one too. It reminds me of the opening theme to Wonder Years

Heh, heh before clicking on your post, the Maxwell House commercial is the one that came to mind. I love the coca cola polar bears too, but the Maxwell House one wins it hands down for me. It always brings tears to my eyes, too. Heck, it's doing it now with me just thinking about it. :P

Yes to the Maxwell House one--I love it. Oh, and the Chex one too. I cry every time I see the Pampers "Silent Night" one with the sleeping babies. Partly because they are so sweet, and partly because DD never slept like that, lol!

Oh, I love the pampers one with Silent Night!
I think because I'm all hormonal and emotional, and having grand delusions that I will sleep once this baby is born - lol! :)

Definitely the Maxwell House commercial. I'm feeling sad now because all of our shows are tivo'd and I haven't seen any of the commercials.

I love the Maxwell House, too. The first time I saw the Pampers one I actually teared up. I still love it.

I also like the Corona (I think it is) one where you see the little house on the beach with the palm trees and O Tannenbaum is playing. Then one of the palm trees lights up with Christmas lights.

Okay, my favorite is a Sear's commercial from a few years ago. The husband has a deck of playing cards and asks the wife where all the diamonds are. She replies "no diamonds in this house!" You have to see it...but I like to quote it to DH from time to time!

Ok, I'll give someone a dollar if they can find the Maxwell House commercial for me. I checked youtube, but couldn't find it there.

There was another one that I really likes from a few years ago. It showed a woman getting her car fixed by a very good looking guy wearing tight jeans and a tool belt. Cut to Christmas morning, and we see her (normal-looking) husband open jeans and a tool belt. She excitedly prompts, "Try them on, honey!" It cracked me up every time!

And for anyone else who loves the Folgers commercial.

My all-time favorite holiday commercial this year is the Garmin one where the guy is lost in his car, driving down a snowy, deserted road, with hilarious lyrics set to the carol of the bells tune.

Favorite line: "Look, there's a moose, give me a noose; I'm lost again; Where's Hwy 10?"

and then after some circling, "there's the moose again!"

I'm rolling every time they play it. I also like the folgers one...prob b/c the guy's name is one of my family member's names. :)

It's not quite the holiday commercial 'cause they show it around Sept. But I love the Staples commercial where they play the music "It's the most wonderful time of the year..." and then show an ecstatic dad throwing in the school supplies into the cart and his children are following him & looking all sad to be going back to school. Thought that was hilarious.

I love the commercials. What i really love is that when i was a kid my father recorded a ton of christmas special onto vhs. When he recorded them he recorded the commercials to. So there's the kellogg's one where all the cereal animals (tony the tiger and his nephew, diggum the frog (sugar smacks), an elephant, the kebler elves and a bunch of others) decorate a tree. There's a commercial for operation that's totally cheesy. Oh-and a cbs newsbreak where they mention president carter and president elect reagan. And the target ad for an atari for 130 dollars. ahh nostalgia

I love the pampers one though, the folgers, the coke, they're all great. but i really love the hershey kisses.don't know why

merry christmas

My favorite holiday commercial is the Heineken one where the guy wraps up a six pack of beer and then tears through the wrapping paper a bit to remove one and covers the hole with a big bow. Then the announcer guys says "The Holiday Five Pack". I laugh out loud everytime I watch it.

I want to give my brother one so badly but alas I haven't been able to go home for Christmas since they started showing it. :(

I like the coffee one too, although I haven't seen it in years. I also enjoy the MnM's commercial where they run into Santa and both of them pass out, gasping, "They do exist!" and "He does exist!"

But I think my favorite Christmas commercial of all time is the Staples "Snobot" spot. "He can't have her! I love her! Weeping, weeping."

Okay, I guess you have to see if for it to be funny. Here it is:

My favorite has always been the Norelco commercial with the snowman riding the razor. Haven't seen it this year though.

Yeah, the one that really pops up is the one Maxwell House commercial about the college guy coming home as a surprise. But I have to admit the Albertsons (our local supermarket chain) Christmas disasters with the woman from Everbody Loves Raymond (can't remember her name!) also comes to mind. Very funny!

Oh, I wish I could find this one... I believe it was from Best Buy or Circuit City a few years ago... it shows a man at the store and a salesperson asks if he needs any help. The man flashes back to last year's Christmas when his wife opened the treadmill he bought. SHe says "Are you saying I'm fat?" and the guy says "Ye--... NO, nonono!" It's hilarious!

I just thought of another one.

I really like the one with the marines toy drive. When the little boy comes up to the marine and asks if he's santa clause and if he is here's his list and the marine opens his hand just enough to take the list. the boy says " i knew it". Gotta love it.
