I am leaving tonight to fly to Alaska tomorrow. I have two snow globes to take with me. They are the old-fashioned kind, plastic domes. Do I need to take them in my carry-on, or will the cargo hold be kept above freezing temp? If the water in them freezes, they will surely break.

thanks in advance for any help!

Most planes do not have any type of climate control in their cargo holds. That said I am not sure that they can go in your carry on. I assume they have more than 6 oz of fluid in them. I might go to the TSA website to find a number to call. Also try calling the airlines(gt the name, numbers and title of any person who helps you). They may allow you to gate check the item and have it put in an onboard storage location. When I flown with my small dogs in the winter thier crate was gate checked and placed in special storage unit on the sitting level of the plane.

Shipping won't help either as warehouses and trucks also go below freezing.

According to the Disney sites I read, snowglobes cannot be taken on in carryon luggage due to the liquid and gel regulations. They recommend shipping them (of course, they're talking about the snowglobes you buy in the parks. Maybe the styrofoam forms they're packed in are insulating enough to prevent freezing?)

I hope you find a way to get them there.

If they have to go in the cargo hold, you could get one of those thermawraps (3M, I think). I used them during labor and they lasted a good 8+ hours. You could maybe wrap the globes in them and then place in an insulating bag. Their temp is close to a heating pad on low.
