View Full Version : We're narrowing down names... any thoughts are very welcome! Our last name is REALLY long, so we're trying to keep it under 5 letters - middle names aren't even under discussion yet...

Greer/Grier may have some obvious teasing potential. Is it for a girl? It sounds a little boyish to me, I chose Gwen.

oops...

Our last name is REALLY long, so we're trying to keep the 1st name short. I don't want a name that can morph into a nickname or a cutesy name (like adding "ie" to the end...)

We've been at this for months and I'm really impatient to give DD her name!!!

i think greer is feminine. i like it a lot. and i like the ee spelling best because it is less fussy and more clear.

I love Greer! It was on our short list had DS been a girl. We chose it because there is a tiny little town in northeastern AZ named Greer that DH and I love. It's quaint and woodsy and perfect for a peaceful getaway.

Both names are great, but knowing you are trying to avoid nicknames, I would think Greer/Grier would be the better option as I have heard "Gwennie" as a diminutive for Gwen(dolyn).

I like Grier (the double ee's might be more easily teased). I can't help but say that it reminds me of Brooke Shield's (her younger daughter)

I think either Greer or Grier would be beautiful. I do of Brooke Shields' daughter now, but my sister had a friend named Greer when she was younger and I've always thought it was a very pretty name. Good luck with your decision!

Is your other dd's name Grace? My SIL has two boys, one Jarrod and the other Jordan. She really regrets having two names that are so close sounding. She is constantly saying the wrong name and people get the names mixed up. Just thinking that Grace and Greer have a similar first sound.

That's amusing. My dog's name is Murphy and Matt is Matt and I'm always calling them the wrong names.
