After many problems with my fan ,plus Nick removing some keys from my keyboard it would now cost around $600 to make this old dog fully right again. I know nothing about Vista..would it be foolish to buy a computer w/o Vista on it? Please talk to me like the computer idiot that I am. No really big technical words, please!

Well, we have Macs, but before Jonathan, I had PCs.

I'd be *really* leary of using the very first version of a new software program. Way too many bugs to work out. And from what I've read already, Vista is chock full of them.

You can probably get a good deal on a computer with XP. Most of the later ones should come with free/cheap upgrades for Vista.

Sounds like it would be a good idea to just find a 'deal" that has the capability to work with Vista in the future.
Kate has an appt with the pediatric opthamologist this Friday so we will know more then, thanks for asking.

Get a new iMac and then run parallels in the future to emulate the PC ;-)

I just listened to a good Slate podcast about Vista today and remembered you asking about this last week. The tech guy said to wait a few week for them to catch any bugs, etc. But, that Microsoft put a lot more effort into making a good product (instead of a rush job like previous versions). Here is the link to his article about whether or not to buy it and which version to buy if you do. Also, if you get podcasts on iTunes you can listen to the Slate Magazine podcast (my favorite).
