Is kindergarten a full day? For some reason I have it in my head that it's five days, but five half days.

Not a stupid question. Granted, I'm not an expert in this, since I don't have a child old enough to be in Kindergarten but I'm pretty sure that it varies by school district.

Depends on where you live. Some places have half days, some have full days, some offer full day or half day, and some do a 2.5 day schedule with two full days and one half day.

We had 2 half days and 3 full days here in my school district.

Depends on the school and where you live.

Marisa,

You must have missed my post about this! I asked this same question fairly
recently.

I know that it varies by school district. I was asking more out of curiousity.

Do a search. The thread got tons of replies. It was actually quite interesting!!

It varies. In our school district, regular kindergarten is full day. However, they also have Junior kindergarten for kids who aren't quite ready for full days, either academically or socially. They go to Jr. Kindergarten for a year, then the next year they go to regular kindergarten. So they end up graduating a year later than other kids. I'm not really sure how I feel about that.

I think it depends on the area/school.
Our elem. has 1/2 days. Where I used to work it is offered full days. Same ISD.

Depends on the school district. Our school system has full day kindergarten.

I think most kindergarten is a half day, but the length of that half day depends on where you go.

DS1 goes to full-day kindergarten. It is the only kind his school offers, but many schools offer 1/2 day. For us, full day was better since both DH and I work FT. When he was 3 he did Nursery (1/2 days), at 4 he did Pre-K (1/2 days). It was a good way to build him up to full day Kindergarten.

The trend is more and more to full day K. And not only can it vary by school district, but even within one district it can depend on the school. Our district is moving eventually to all schools having all day K, but right now some schools are half day and some are full day.
