I'd love to hear from anyone who has a sitter during work hours, less than full time. What do you pay for how many kids? Do they do housecleaning or just child care?

Also are there any services/agencies you've used or how did you find your sitter?

TIA!

My sister lives outside of Boston (Wellesley/Natick area) and paid $20 per hour for 3 children. She doesn't have this arrangement anymore, but until this past September she did have a part-time nanny for years.

She has actually been through quite a few people through the years- a bad side because there has been a lot of transition. The positive however, is that she has gotten some really good people (there have definitely been a few chuckleheads). She has never used a service and I am pretty sure she has found every nanny either through word of mouth or on-line. She has used sitter city (one word) dot com and college helpers (one word) dot com. She has had really good luck with area college students and has used them often to fill in during transition periods (and as evening babysitters).

At one point last year her nanny left her on a Thursday without any notice at all, she posted on these sites and within a few days had gotten a ton of responses, interviewed a bunch of people, and had someone ready to start work the next week.

Because I also have a part-time nanny she and I have discussed this topic and process ad nauseum. I know that she has said in the past that she cannot get anyone good in her area for less than $20 per hour.

Let me know if you need any other information. Good luck!!

The going rate around here seems to be $12-$15 for one to two children. Nanny services are great and will give you a lot of coversage, but you should expect to pay $2000 - $4000 in finders fees, and nannies will be more expensive going that route as well.

I'm a nanny (or was) North of Boston- I got my job through word of mouth- but my replacement was found through Craig's list- my boss looked through Nanny Finder and a couple of other websites before she struck gold with Craig's List-

I was paid $13 an hour M-F 9am to 5pm- and didn't do any housework, I just made lunches and played with the girls.
When I nannied a while ago(10 years)- I did laundry, carpooled, helped with homework, made dinner and all kinds of things for $10- so- I think salary should be based on what you think is fair.

Ask around... or ask friends with nannies, if their nannies have any recommendations.

How far north of Boston? (I may have a recommendation for you...I'd trust her with my son)
