Just curious, if you could tell me more about it I would be thankful.

Christy,
Some experience with adults. It's often, but not always linked to iron deficiency anemia. I'm assuming the concern is with Maddy. Has she been checked?

Not yet, DH thinks I'm crazy. Guess I was just looking for some validation of my feelings here.

I am going to talk with our ped when I take J in for his 1 yr well baby check next Thursday.

I am just so confused she trys to eat everything and is definitely not discrimanatory. I think that a good thing since she doesn't seem have a "taste" for any particular one thing. I don't know if this is her way of protesting when I look away or if she truly has a problem. I was talking with a friend of the family (social worker) and the list of things that Maddy has eaten made her and she expressed concern.

I have to keep everything out of her reach and I am terrified that she is going to get a hold of something truly dangerous. She has eaten several things that I've call Poison control about but nothing needing medical attention or even observation for so far.

Thanks for responding! :)

Hugs Christy!

I'm only familiar with pica in heifers, and even then it's nerve-wracking. Here's to finding answers and a solution!

I have a friend that is concerned about her son. She was told that they hesitate to diagnose it when kids are under age 2, because it's hard to sort out what's pica and what's just general putting things in the mouth, as all kids do at that age. Her son eats flour, dirt, chalk. From her research it looks like a nutritional deficiency is the cause. Her son is about to turn 2. HTH.

Thanks Jennifer. Maddy is about to turn three which is why I am concerned. She normally put things in her mouth at 2 or so but then went through about 6 months where that tapered off. Now it is unreal the lengths she will go to to get things into her mouth. Thanks again.

I have no experience or knowledge on this disorder I just wanted to offer my ((hugs)) and tell you to trust your enstincts. You are not crazy. In order to figure out what Pica is I googled it and this seemed like a very helpful link (in case you havent seen this one):

hugs,

I've never seen a case of pediatric pica at the small hospital that I work in, hope all turns out well and that you can keep her safe in the interval. That sounds really scary!

Thanks Christy! :)

I'm going to guess she doesn't have pica, esp after reading the link from other poster. Please let us know what your ped says.
