I know it's not until July (--hot!!) -- but thought I'd start thinking about fun ideas for the twins 5th birthday. Have you seen anything that's fun to do outdoors or indoors? We just came back from a teddy bear stuffing party which was great -- the kids were occupied and had a great time, and came home with their 'take home' gift already to go. What would be a fun thing to do in the summer? I thought of hiring a musician, or clown (is that boring for 5 year olds?) or an animal guy, but I like the idea of the kids being able to make something that they take home.

thanks!

Have a party at the local pool or splash park. Or a ceramics painting place if you want them to have a keepsake.

I'd veto the clown as there are kids (and parents :)) who really get creeped out by them.

We have been to lots of 5yo parties this year and the kids still seemed to be easily entertained (no extras really necessary). We have done parties at a gymnastics' place as well as a kids' museum. Other parties have just been at school where the kids just eat cake and played.

Last year for ds' 4th party we did a treasure hunt theme and at the end the kids went on a treasure hunt to a spot of fresh mulch in the back yard. Buried there were little wooden treasure chest boxes from Michaels. Their goody bags included glitter glue, some glue on gems, and paints so that each kid could make their own treasure chest to fill up at home (as well as 2-3 Hershey treasure nuggets candies). It went over pretty well, according to the parents when I talked to them later.

Any special interests with your boys? I would head over to FamilyFun.com and read their b-day pages. That is where I get a lot of inspiration each year.

I think they would have fun even if you just got a cool Little Tikes sprinkler ball (Amazon.com) and had fun outside games. If they are really into games/ sports you could host like an Olympics.

I don't know if there is a Michaels near you, but they do bday parties (and are fairly inexpensive imo), plus the kids would have a craft to take home.

Also, what about a "pump it up" type party - I'm not sure if there's one by you, but it's indoors and I'm sure the kids would have a blast. It might be worth checking into! http://www.pumpitupparty.com/

HTH and happy birthday!!!
