Moms of two year olds, how long is your DC up before going down for a nap? I am assuming one nap a day. I think I am waiting too long, but don't know what to aim for. Thanks.

I think it really varies by kid. N only dropped his 2nd nap somewhere right after he turned two, and when he did so, the one nap of the day changed from a 2-4 nap to a 12-3 nap...we still have lunch at 11:30, because if he does take a nap during the day, he'll take it on the early side.

But to answer your question - when he dropped to one nap a day, the schedule was generally a wake-up around 7:30, nap 12-3, bedtime between 8 and 8:30. So awake for between 3 and 5 hours at a time.

My DD is up between 7-8 am and goes down with her older sister (4 yo) for a nap between 12:30-1 pm. She usually sleeps until about 3:30 pm. ETA bedtime for both is between 7:30-8 pm.

When my oldest was that age, I HAD to get her down for her nap before 12:30 or she would have a full blown meltdown.

DS is up between 6am and 7:30am depending on the day. I try to aim for lunch at 11:30, then get him down for nap in the 12:30 area so that he's physically sleeping by 1pm. He's then up between 3pm and 3:30, bedtime at 7:30. He dropped to one nap a day when he was about 13 months old in order to get read for a new daycare that only had the one nap a day, so I wanted that transition to go well.

We think we're lucky to get one nap a day. It's really NEVER been two...

DS isn't quite two, but he usually naps once a day around 12ish. Once in a great while it's even earlier (sometimes as early as 8:30!) and fairly often it's a bit later. Usually he naps for 1-3 hours. DS gets up around 8ish, naps around 12ish, and goes to bed around 8ish. Lots of ishes around here!

My little guy is 22 months. He wakes in the morning around 7:30 or 8am. He goes down for his nap anywhere from 12:30 to 2:30.... usually sleeps for 2 or 3 hours! He goes to bed at 9:00pm!

He's been on a one nap schedule since he was around a year old. Both my kids dropped to one nap early but that one nap always got longer!

Personally I wish he would be more consistant and go down at 12 but my older DS gets out of Kindergarten at 1:30 so it makes it hard. Usually he stays up to pick up his brother and then goes down around 2:00. It all depends on our day and how he slept the night before.

My son was 2 in November. He wakes up around 6:30/7 (at least that is when we hear him talking). We eat lunch between 11 and 11:30. Prior to about 2 weeks ago, he started his nap at 12:30ish. However he was talking, playing, etc for a long time and not falling asleep until 2 or 3 o'clock! Then we he did fall asleep he would wake up groggy and kind of out of it. I moved his nap back to 12:00 and this has helped a lot. He now goes to sleep within a reasonable amount of time. I think I was missing his sleep window. So, finally to answer your question I guess he is up for about 5 hours. If he wakes earlier or later, I adjust nap time, but I have found if it is much later than 1:00 he doesn't sleep well.

Ideally, DD goes down for her nap shortly before 1:00. She's been getting up between 6:30 and 7:00, napping from about 1:00 to 4:00, and falling asleep after 9:00. (We start bedtime before 8:00, but DD talks, reads, sings, etc for over an hour when all is said and done.)

So she's up for about 6 hours until naptime. I imagine if I could move her nap up she'd go to bed earlier as well, but we have all these morning activities we do to get out of the house that make that nearly impossible...

DS2 is 22 months. He gets up at 7-7:30 am, naps around 1:30 pm -3:30 pm, but this can vary with him going down usually no earlier than 1 pm unless he falls asleep in the car, but sometimes as late as 2:30-3 pm. He goes to bed around 7:30pm

Aubrey is two and a half. She's been at one nap per day for a long while now. She gets up between 6:00 and 7:00, but lately sometimes as early as 5:00. On her Mama's days she goes down for her nap around 2:00. On my nanny days, she will often go down much earlier, like as early as 9:00.

For Mama, she sleeps 30-45 minutes, but for me, a couple of hours. And Mama reports that she is less prone to evening meltdowns on her longer nap days.

I just watch her for sleepy signals, like fussiness, strong clinginess, or whining. When those start coming, I start aiming her toward nap time. We work out the lunch schedule around her sleep signals/needs, so sometimes when she naps late-ish she eats lunch pretty late. Since she frequently has a cup of milk to settle herself for nap time, this doesn't seem to be a problem.

DS was 2 in November. Generally wake up time is 7 a.m. and nap is from 12:30 - 2:30. He goes to bed between 7 - 7:30 p.m. Of course, that's an ideal day and those don't always happen! :)
