SSA Popular baby name list question

Does anyone know when the SSA publishes the list of popular baby names from the previous year? Right now on their website (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/) they have the top names for 2005, and I'm curious about what was popular last year. I thought this info came out somewhat early in the year, but maybe not?

the year we had sam they posted it right around when i was due (so first week of may?). i think it was the same time (end of april/early may) last year too.

I am thinking that the 2005 data wasn't up until late summer or sometime in the fall. I recall being really surprised that it took so long.

ETA- Lori is probably right, maybe it just seemed like a really long time to me.

I think they are generally published in the 2nd quarter, so some time after March. :)

I like doing the search that goes back 15 years. If it's been commonly used from 05 on back, chances are it was pretty popular last year as well.

Thanks all! Since I'm *due* the third week of May, I am thinking we'd better come up with our short list without the aid of last year's list. :) I am curious because one of the names (and its variations) has been popular in the past 5+ years, and I want to know if it's getting more or less popular.

Ah well, we'll take a gamble I guess!

Me too. It's a great site (and book!). Also, check our her "baby name blog" - it's really interesting what trends she finds in the data.
