positive news!!!

PC has improved dramatically. the antibiotics seem to be working and he's feeding again on his own. he was able to wean off of the oxygen.

at about 9 or 10 last night he just "woke up". He opened his eyes and was alert for the first time in several days which was just so exciting. i looked into his eyes and could tell he actually saw me, you know? it was like having him brought back to me...like he was being born again. it was beautiful and i just held on tight to him. he's resting comfortably now and is still getting fluids and IV antibiotics. we're waiting on a few tests to come back, but he looks to be on the mend.

we are so overjoyed...he has made such leaps and bounds from just yesterday...it's incredible. we're still taking things minute by minute but we're very enouraged by his progress and we're hopeful that he's going to make a full recovery....

thanks to everyone for their support. and keep sending us those good thoughts and prayers...we're in the middle of our own miracle!

YAAAAAYYY!!! I've been following your story and, although I haven't responded to any of your other posts, I have been thinking of you and PC often. This is such incredible and welcome news - you brought tears to my eyes! I'm so happy that you were able to get to the Children's hospital. Obviously, they are doing so much more for PC than the other hospital did.

you know i'm not sure. i've been wondering the same thing. i think he must have had a secondary infection. his white count appeared to reflect that along with the fever spike on saturday. we just haven't found the source of that infection yet. we're still waiting on several tests so maybe we'll learn something from those results. i'm just glad they went ahead with the antibiotics while we were waiting for the results. i was nervous about putting drugs in him but he seemed to really respond.

Megs, I'm SO happy to hear your good news. We had a similar situation with an infection when dd was born. She was having breathing problems and her white count indicated an infection, but they couldn't ever get a culture to grow to identify the bacteria causing it. It responded to the antibiotics though, and she just got better. I hope things continue to improve quickly and you can get your little guy home soon. Hugs to you.

My ped actually said it was even higher, though I forget the exact number. Of course, he was talking to a women (me) who's daughter had two ear infections and a UTI at the same time she had RSV, so I think he was trying to make me feel better.

But my DD had a dramatic improvement after a megadose of antibiotics, so I'm glad to hear JJ is improving as well!!!
