View Full Version : Curly-haired girls: educate me about flat irons!

I think I've worn a ponytail almost every day for...how many years? I'm too embarrassed to count! As much as I've tried to embrace my curly locks, it's just not happening. I think I'd like to try a flat iron. Any suggestions? I've read a few online reviews, but they tend to be submitted by people who had problems with theirs -- no one goes online to rave about how theirs was great and lasted for years, you know?

My hair is shoulder length, ridiculously thick, and has a curl kind of like...hmmm...Sarah Jessica Parker's if she didn't have a professional stylist? ;-) Mine straightens pretty easily, but it's just so thick that it takes for ever. Last straightening tool was a cheapie from Target, and I lost my patience a long time ago. I wouldn't use it every day, just occasionally for a break from the curly ponytail. I saved some Christmas money so I'm prepared to spend $100-200.

TIA!

I have a CHI and have been using it for almost 2 years now with no problems. My hair is wavy and thick, but probably not as thick as yours. My only suggestion is to perhaps by it from a B&M (like Ulta or Bed bath and beyond) so that jic you totally hate it, you can still return it with no problems.

Good luck!

I second the CHI straightener. I have ridiculously thick, wavy in some places hair and it is the best straightener I have ever had! It still takes awhile to straighten (because I do it in layers to get everything straight) but it's about half the time of other straighteners because it gets hot really quickly and stays hot!

Oh, someone asked about discounts in the Bargains Forum. There is a 25% off LNT coupon which could save you lots!

Good luck!

I third the Chi iron! Its the only way I can get my unruly, wavy, frizzy hair straight. I have tried other irons, and nothing compares!

I love my CHI Iron, I would recommend that you spend the extra $20 and get the one with temp control. I use it on a low setting for DD's hair to softly curl her ends.

This is where I ordered from, got it in 3 days.

Thanks for all of the replies! I was kind of researched-out on this one, so I'm glad to hear that the Chi is highly recommended here. I'm going to give it a try. I'm excited -- thanks again!
