I'm trying to decide on a prenatal vitamin, and the OB's sample bag contained a few brands of vitamins with extra DHA supplements. I don't remember the extra DHA pills from back when I was pregnant with DD. How is DHA beneficial? I want to know what my body's missing out on if I happen to decide on a vitamin without the DHA.

Thanks!

I was debating whether I should take the one with DHA. At that time (about 6 months ago), I found out that the DHA portion had not been approved by the FDA and decided to take the normal prenatal one instead. Also, I googled at that time and found out that some brands was not considered to be safe.

DHA has omega-3 which is good for brain development. You need to check whether there is any update from FDA regarding the prenatal with DHA.

BTW, you can consume DHA through eating fish with rich in DHA such as salmon or egg.

I have been taking my prenatal and then a fish oil suppliment.

I probably won't take the DHA one just b/c I already own some w/o.
