I just wore a new shirt for the first time today, and was putting dishes away that we left to dry over the weekend while we were out of town. One of my cookie sheets had a puddle of water in it and rusted during the 2 days we we're gone. I was putting it on the upper shelf and rust came spilling all down my new shirt. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it? It is a bright magenta colored shirt, so I can't bleach it. Oxyclean? I have it soaking now in cold water with Zout on it. Please help, I even bought shoes to match this shirt on our out of town trip.

Usually letting the clothing soak in super hot water and a scoop of Oxy works well for me. But rust is a tough one. Good luck.

Try lemon juice. If the shirt can be out in the sun, you can lay the shirt on several pieces of white paper towel and then squeeze half a lemon on the stain to saturate it. Put the whole kit and caboodle in the sun and the rust should be blotted out by the paper towel. Rust is soluble (to some extent) in acids, which is probably why this works. As usual, you might want to test it on an inconspicuous spot, yada, yada, yada, but it should work.

I've also read that adding salt to the lemon juice will make it more effective.

I just googled it and came up with this page for stain removals:

Looks like they have a few suggestions for removing rust stains. Good luck!

I think my mom uses Iron Out - I will double check with her and edit if it's a different product. She is the queen of laundry tips! :)
