The Dr. has swapped my Pill prescription. I was going to just start taking the new pack when I finished the old pack on Wednesday - first day in cycle. But I read the instructions and if you don't start on the first day of your period, which I didn't, it says to start on Sunday and use other BC methods for 7 days. DH and I are going away for a romantic weekend this week...we will both be very disappointed if we have to use condoms, neither of us like them much. So, am I OK to just start the new pack as I planned?

Thanks Nicci

I don't know but I would call your OB and just wanted to say have fun on your trip ;). I guess you could always get another pack of your existing prescription and switch later. Just FWIW I switched a lot and one time I totally missed a period and thought I was pregnant (I wasn't) it was just the pill switching!

I'd get another pack of the original pills. It's worth the $$ for the peace of mind. You could stop them on Sunday or wait until it runs out--your choice.

I love them most when they are sleeping.--Me

I'd call to check but I would probably just start as soon as the other ones ran out. I think they are just trying to simplify things with a Sunday start- not b/c there is some medical need.

Generally the instructions in the package insert are for starting pills when you haven't been on anything previously. You should be fine substituting the new pack for your old pack (starting them on your regular start date) and not have to worry about compromised coverage.

Thanks everyone. My old prescription has expired and I'm now seeing a different doctor. I'll call to double check. I feel that I should be OK as my period will finish Friday. It's also the same type of pill, just a lower dose - Yaz instead of Yasmine.
