This is so huge!! She has been wearing the Huggies Good Nites to bed
at night. She has been potty-trained forever but she wasn't staying dry
at night and she wasn't able to wake herself up to go. (Very heavy sleeper)

Lately, she has been waking up dry so once her Good Nites ran out, I told
her that we are done with them.

Tonight is her 3rd night wearing panties to bed and she is waking up dry!
So far so good!

FINALLY!

Woo Hoo Carson! Way to go. That's a big accomplishment! I finally got brave enough to not buy pull-ups for Luke this last time, so we're doing the underwear thing 24/7, too. L had been staying dry at night for quite a while, but I just didn't want to risk pee on the new mattress. (Bad mommy? :) )

Yeah, Carson!!

Congrats!! Can I hijack a bit and ask about my 3.5YO who has worn panties to bed for 2 weeks and woken up wet 4 times (so, on average every third/fourth day or so)? Is there anything I can do to help her out? Restricting fluids seems mean, and I can't imagine waking her up to use the potty in the middle of the night. Should she sleep naked? Or what's a good tip??

TIA for any advice from all you great moms,
Jenny

Hooray hooray! That's a real milestone.
DD just peed in the potty for the first time. She was so excited about the Elmo undies I got her that she just did it. But we have a long way before we got to dry all night.

Jenny, no BTDT advice, but I seem to remember my parents restricting fluid before bed. Doesn't seem mean to me- just remind her to drink at dinner (or whenever) & explain that not drinking too close to bedtime might help her wake up dry.
I also remember my Mom buying a very detailed potty training book for one of my siblings who had a very hard time at night. I think it was called Dry All Night & was about a camel named D.A.N. It's probably a bit advanced for your DD (my sis was much older at the time) but if you want I can get the exact info from my mother.
Good luck!

Corie, please excuse my bad manners. I've been meaning to ask this for a while & your post kinda gave me the opportunity. ;)

Does anyone have good PT books for the beginner? DD talks about her big 4 yo cousins who 'make on potty' but would probably do great with a book. TIA

Great job, Carson!

Corie, it made me feel better to know that there are other 5.5 year olds who haven't quite mastered the skill of staying dry at night. I hope Julia will follow is Carson's footsteps soon...!

I haven't restricted her fluids, simply because it's hard for me, personally--I drink all through the night--not a ton, but I do drink. I couldn't even imagine waking her up before I went to bed so she could pee, but my mom assured me that she did it with all four of us, so I decided to try it. Other than the fact that it was hard to wake her up, it turns out it works very well. I keep the potty in her room (Boon) and I just lift her out of bed, pull down her panties, let her pee, wipe her up, and put her back in bed. I don't worry about emptying it until morning, so there's minimal disruptions. She actually goes back to sleep almost immediately.

(Oh, and not sure about the sleeping naked, but I do have her in trainers and a cover that are easily pulled up and down and she's sleeping on a fleece blanket. I have NOT had to do any extra laundry so far. Hopefully that will continue.)

That's fantastic!

My son is 3.5 and has been potty trained for almost a year, but is SO wet at night and at naps. He would like not to wear diapers at night, but obviously he has to (just bought size 7 diapers) and I often feel like I should be doing something to help him get there, but I also think he just isn't ready. Good to know he is not alone, GREAT to know it actually. And to be reminded that he will get there someday. Right?

You must be so proud!!!!

Liz,

My daughter is 5.5 years old. She has been potty-trained since she
was about 3.5 years old. So for two years she has been wearing panties
during the day but at night, she was wearing a diaper or Good Nites.

She is a very heavy sleeper and doesn't wake up all night to go potty.
I knew it would take her awhile before she was able to go all the way through
the night.

But, she has been remaining dry for awhile now, so once the Good Nites
were gone, we decided to go for it.
