Why does the TV show I downloaded from ITunes play so choppy?

Is it a cord problem? Video card? Computer capacity issue? When I try to play the show, it is very choppy and the video freezes for a second or two, then jumps ahead to catch up, so the audio seldom matches up with the video. Is there an easy fix? Could I burn the ITunes show to a DVD and play it there?

Sigh. I used to be technology-handy, but am now so far behind!
