Holy cow! I'm glad I decided at the last minute to NOT get the veggie booty at the last Amazon sale! I hope no one gets really sick.

DS had a big container of Veggie Booty today! I'm probably panicking more than necessary since he had salmonella when he was eight months old and I really don't want him to get it again (of course, not that anyone ever does). He has had pretty messy diapers/diarrhea lately...he never threw up last time, just diarrhea/fever. We wouldn't have even known except they ended up testing him because of the diaper rash. Maybe that happened this time too?

Okay, I have so far at least three bags of Veggie Booty to get rid of. I didn't buy any in the Amazon sale because I can find it relatively easily or I might have much more!

Uh oh, I had stocked up and have several bags. DS ate a ton of it on vacation b/c it is easy and tasty. Is there any veggie booty in the stores now that is ok, or would it be best to wait. It's one of the few snack foods DS can have with his allergies.

ETA: Any luck getting reimb through email or do we have to mail in our empty packages?

It sounds like it would be best to wait. On their site is says they're gong to halt production until they figure more out. There weren't specific lot numbers or batches, it just said to discard all of it immediately.

yeah, I just read that they're halting all production. Oh well. I hope fruity booty is still ok. It is a broad recall. First Whole soy and Co. blueberry yogurt and now this! All of Ds's foods are being recalled.

OTTAWA, June 28, 2007 -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Booty snack food described below because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product, Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Booty snack food, a product of the United States (U.S.), is sold in a flexible plastic foil bag. All sizes and lot codes are affected by this alert. This product is known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan but may have been distributed nationally. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

For more information, consumers and industry can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday).

I don't mean to be dense but is this for all their products? I usually buy the Pirate's Booty and was going to get some for an upcoming trip.

TIA for any answers.

It sounds like it's just the veggie booty. If you want to be safe you could call them or maybe buy the Trader Joes pirates Booty knockoff for your trip.... if you have a TJ's close by!

I e-mailed them last night that I had three bags and they said to send the empty bags (with the receipt if I had it, yeah, right) and how much I paid for the bags and they would reimburse the cost, plus the cost of postage.

Okay, it would make more sense to post the reply:

At this point we recommend that you empty the contents of any bags of
Veggie Booty that you have. Please return the empty bags to our
offices for reimbursement. Please send your bags to Robert's American
Gourmet, P.O. Box 326, Sea Cliff, NY 11579 along with your address and
receipt if possible, we will reimburse for the postage costs as well.
If the receipt is not available pl. If the receipt is not available
please let us know what you paid for the bags. Please allow 6-8 weeks
for processing.

Sincerely,

Georgine Hertzwig

A very quick response since I e-mailed late last night after reading about the recall.

Anyone know how long it takes for Salmonella to show up? We ate this at the beach on Tuesday. When would we have symptoms?

I had that recent experience w/ the WFs Tahini (recalled for salmonella). I got sick the night I ate it.

When I figured out I had the affected product in my fridge a few weeks later, I looked it up and I think the onset is generally pretty fast...commonly within 12 hours or so if I remember correctly (which fit what happened to me). Maybe up to a day. I'm not sure if you can get it later than that, but hopefully you are in the clear. Crossing my fingers for you and everyone else possibly affected by the recall.

This particularly sucks since salmonella can be really hard on kids, and veggie booty is a product often eaten by children.
