We live in a woody area and there's lots of ticks in the backyard. Ds and our dog play in the back everyday, all day. So far I haven't found any on ds, but we pull them off of our dog a few times a week. Of course, I worry about tick bites, Lyme disease, etc., yet chemicals needed to treat the lawn concern me as well. Not sure which one worries me more, though.

So what do you do? Don't treat the lawn and just do checks throughout the day, or spray for ticks, and if so, what do you use?

We had a pretty bad dog tick infestation last year after we had some landscaping done (we suspect the pine bark mulch). I did some research looking for safe or safer ways to treat the problem, and decided on this powder:

DH spread it and then we waited an extra long time, making sure we'd had a good steady rain, before we let the kids outside. It seemed to work, though. Haven't seen a tick since.
