My upper wisdom tooth is coming out sideways! It showed no signs of coming through at my last check-up. Luckily I only have two wisdom teeth, both on top. My dentist doesn't think the other one will come down at all. Now that this one is out and poking my cheek, do I need to have my dentist pull it now, or should I wait until after the baby is born? I know it's considered an oral surgery. It's beginning to bother me a lot now.

My dentist's office has strict guidelines for dental work on pregnant women. I can't even have a basic cleaning without a note from my doctor. What happens if I have a dental emergency?

I'm just curious what options are available to pregnant women.

I had to have an infected wisdom tooth come out when I was pregnant with DS. My dr. said to wait until I was well in my second trimester, if I could. It was pretty painful waiting, but I did. They did use something to numb me up, but the oral surgeon and ob felt it was okay given the second trimester and how much pain I was in...

If you're not in pain, I guess I would wait (though I remember worrying and wondering how I'd fit in getting wisdom teeth removed after I had a newborn) for as long as possible. But, know that if it's a true emergency, it'll be okay...

Good luck!

Blech, sorry you goin' thru this Caroline. I had a wisdom tooth thing and it SUCKED.

But I think it's pretty important to get dental work done and to keep on top of it even while your pregnant. I waited on my tooth (cause I'm a chicken) and it got BAD, so I was knocked out. I wasn't pregnant but I was nursing at the time and from what I looked up it was fine. Obviously you're in a different boat but I'm pretty sure that you can have novocaine while pregnant. I'm sure someobody else will post with better advice than me.

Good luck! Feel better soon. :)

I had a filling repaired while I was pregnant. I could have also had wisdom teeth extracted, it was ok with my doctor and the dentist, but I opted to wait. I wish I had not waited.
