I have an old Palm Pilot Vx and 2 cell phones I no longer use. What do I do with these? I know to clear the data from each, but after that, what good are they and to whom?

Thanks,
eva

If it was me i'd ebay the palm pilot and donate the cell phones to a womens shelter or someplace - i've read that cell companies will accept used phones and refurb them to simply dial 911 and that's it. Not sure of specifics.

They wouldn't happen to be Verizon cell phones would they? I've lost mine and would like to find an old Verizon cell phone from someone that I can take and have reprogrammed by Verizon.

I seem to recall a program for the Palms where they could be donated to African doctors/medical personnel and they could load tons of medical data onto them and have all that knowledge available to them 24/7. I have no idea of the name of the charity though, but I thought it was cool.

Why, yes. As a matter of fact, they are.

Edited to add: Something's going on w/ my PM ability. Respond to this if you're interested in knowing which phones I've got.

I had no idea this was an option!

I'm all for ebaying (where there's a buyer, I'm all for selling), but donating is also a very viable option for me, as well.

I'm off to find out more (if I can)!

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice! I appreciate you guys taking your time to help me out.

Try googling donate cell phones or soemthing because I think there are many organizations that accept them. Also, I hope I am remembering the right person, but did you have your second baby? What did you do regarding a scheduled induction/c section during spring break vs. letting nature take its course? I have remembered your dilemma a few times and hope it all turned out well.

Thanks for the advice!

And thanks for remembering! I let nature take its course. And I had the baby the Friday of Spring Break. I had hoped to go into labor earlier, but I'm so glad I let it come when it was ready. Labor was painful this time (I'm so glad I didn't get any pitocin administered). I labored for 30 hours, but DS2 wouldn't come down and I wouldn't dilate past 6 centimeters (same with DS1), so I ended up with another c-section. But, this time I felt I was in control of the birth, and I'm at peace with it.

You're so sweet to ask!

And the breastfeeding? Did it work out well even with your more limited time to get it going? I am glad that you feel good about the whole experience.

i would have pm'd you this personal discussion, but your email/pm is disengaged. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others who remember your dilemma and have been rooting for you, whatever you decided.

Wow. Didn't know my PM was disengaged! I'll turn that on.

As for the breastfeeding, it's working out as well as it's going to. I have a touch of insufficient glandular tissue and I've been taking all sorts of supplements to help it out (fenugreek, blessed thistle, nettle, etc.). It's as good as it's going to get, though I do still have to give DS2 1-2 bottles a day. I'm at peace with that, too. I know I've done my best and that I'm doing the best for him, so that's all I can ask of myself! It's been a good experience overall, even though it hasn't been my ideal (but then again, what is?).

Thanks again for asking. I've been so busy I haven't had time to post a birth story or anything. And now he's 5 months old and I can't believe it!

Okay, I just went to my profile and the PM preference is marked 'yes, receive and send PMs'. Is there something else I need to do to make this work? Does anyone know?

If you google "sell your cell phone" you can see how much you can get for it. I freecycled my cell phone because it was not worth selling.

Body Shop stores will accept old cell phones to donate to battered women's shelters. You don't get any sort of Body Shop coupon or anything but it is worth the cause.

Hey! Yes! Please let me know. Verizon said that if I could bring an old Verizon phone they would reprogram it. I'm not picky. Just needs to dial :-). I'd be happy to pay for them.

I have a Motorola T720. Oldest phone I have but in great condition. I have a charger and a car charger for this one. If I remember correctly, the regular charger's leads are a bit particular; you have to have it in the right position for it to charge, but that wasn't why I got a new phone. I just wanted a different style.

I also have a Motorola LG VX7000. This is a camera phone. I only have the wall charger for this one. I got a new phone because I wanted something smaller here.

Both phones are silver, and you are more than welcome to either one for just the cost of shipping. Let me know what you want to do and it's yours!

By the way, I'll be out of town later this week, but I'll check the board as soon as I come back. Alternatively, you can email me at [email protected] and I'll check that when I get back, too. We can work out shipping details then, if that's okay with you (with 2 kiddos, it would be impossible for me to make it to the Post Office before I leave, sorry).
