How often do you wash your swimsuit with soap?

So, as a child who was swimming twice daily at camp, my mother had a strict rule that we had to rinse out our swimsuits every day in the sink and hang them to dry. Washing them with soap never happened, and I confess to doing the same as an adult. I wash my kids' suits more often, although still not much, but I rarely wash mine. How unusual is this?
