View Full Version : Well, I'm anemic. AND...

JoyNChrist

...PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!
(And the boards were down this morning and I couldn't tell y'all!)

So you take a DH, who has been working out of town pretty much since your son was born, who comes home early one night as a surprise.

Factor in a baby boy who is miraculousy asleep in the swing in your bedroom when DH arrives.

Add this to the fact that "protection" is in the bedroom, where you don't want to go out of fear that you'll wake your incredibly light-sleeping baby. And, after all, I'm still exclusively breastfeeding, so what are the chances, "just this once"?

Apparently they're pretty darn good!

Y'all should have seen me at the doctor's office. It was insane...when he told me, I called him a liar about 17 times. Then I made him re-do the test. And then I made him show me the results about 6 times. :-)

Ultrasound Monday, as I'm not sure how far along I am. And as to the anemia thing, I have to discuss it with my OB (I thought I was done with him for a while!), then probably see a nutritionist. Apparently the task of nursing one baby and growing another isn't doing great things to my poor little body.

I am Never Going to Sleep Again! Oy. ;-)

Congratulations! I found out about my surprise pregnancy about 6 weeks ago and still can't believe it.

For the anemia, you might want to try Floradix. It's a natural herbal liquid supplement that helps boost your iron. I have a tendency to be anemic and it's what my midwife always recommends.

Holy Crap! For real?! Wow. Big Congrats to you and the fam. :)

Yep, I'm in LA, although supposedly moving to CO early next year if DH's company ever gets its act together and gives us an actual moving date.

Congratulations!! Having babies close together in age definitely has its advantages (in case you can't think of any right now):

+You don't need to buy new infant carseats
+All their toys are still "instyle"
+You'll have an easier time breast feeding the second because the let down won't be as painful at first (a ped told me this)
+your children will be great playmates
+you won't remember a time when you got a full night's sleep (so you won't remember what you are missing :) )
+your older child won't have any toys around the house yet that the baby could choke on

Make sure to let us know when you are due!!!

Holy. Cow.

Wow, mama...you go! I'm sure once you get over the shock, you'll see that there were reasons our fore-mothers did things so quickly and had the tots pretty close together. The good news...you'll look hot and still have energy to travel and enjoy your DH once the kiddos are grown and out of the house...the rest of us...well, there's caffeine and face lifts, right? LOL!

Congrats! keep us posted

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

It's so funny that you're pregnant...when you wrote the post about Avery crawling all I saw at first was "Holy Cramoly, We're..." and I thought for sure it was going to say "pregnant" not "crawling". I almost replied with a silly remark, but didn't want to freak you out. HA HA!!!

Congratulations, and welcome to the SUPRISE! club! :-)

ETA: My older bro and I are 14 months apart and DH and his younger sister are barely 11 months apart. We're both really close with our sibling. DS and DD are 16 months apart and it's challenging, but a lot of fun! Notice the trend- boy, girl! I've heard a lot of surpise babies are girls- can't wait to hear what you've got cookin' in there!

Congratulations!!!

I know you've loved and struggled with Avery, and you will with two, but ultimately it will be amazing. As a mom of two that are two years apart (not planned that way) who found it pretty tough at times, I am so in love with my family and kids who are close in age. They adore each other (slap each other around, but love is definitely there), and it is a truly a beautiful thing to watch. Always remember that there are ebbs and flows, easy times and hard times. But kids and fertility are things to be thankful for. Congratulations. To a healthy pregnancy--

Wowza! What a shock for your whole family. And the nutritionist is a great, great idea. You are going to need careful planning to get your iron up, nurse and grow a baby. That is a lot of work. Inquiring minds want to know...still moving into a trailer? I hope the bed in the trailer is very comfortable...I would be sleeping 20 hours a day if nursing and pregnant. :)

WOW...Congratulations!

Let me say from personal experience that it will be OK. After having Jackson through IVF we were told we had about a 1% chance of having a baby on our own. Clearly we should be going to Vegas and playing the odds! :) Tyler and Jaci are 14 months and 1 day apart. It is crazy and extremely difficult at times but it is also so wonderful and has truly turned out to be such a blessing. I couldn't see it when I first became pregnant but after the shock wore off we just rolled with it. Things aren't always perfect but we do have a lot of fun!
I must say that the whole sleep thing didn't bother me nearly as much with Jaci because I was already used to not sleeping with Tyler.

Congratulations once again!

Aha, so you're the one who jinxed me!

I'm sure it'll be fine...I have a really good friend whose boys are 11 months apart, so I do have some frame of reference. And I've always said I wanted 6 babies...so now I'll be 1/3 of the way there!

JoyNChrist

Oh yes, we're definitely still moving into the travel trailer to be with DH. We've actually already bought it and have it set up, and Avery and I have spent a few nights there (we came home so I could go to the doctor). I'm moving the rest of the stuff we need down there this weekend.

We're going to hold off on renting our house here until we see what happens with the CO move (we still don't have a date, and DH is getting really annoyed). If the CO deal goes through, we'll probably sell our house here. If not, we may still sell because we'll probably want to buy something bigger, since we only have 2 bedrooms right now.

But yeah, I'm excited about the travel trailer. It's somewhat small, but at least I'll have some help...I informed DH that he now has the privilege of getting up with DS at night, since I need my rest. ;-) I brought my mattress from home (it's a queen bed), so that part will be fine.

Congratulations and best wishes. I think the nutritionist is an excellent idea. Also, if you are interested in continuing to nurse while pg, Adventures in Tandem Nursing is a good book, and kellymom.com has some good info as well.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

we first of all, you are going to LOVE getting it all done and over with so quickly. i mean, suddenly in about 3 years, you are going to be sittin' back watching them play together while your friends are pregnant and aching, chasing tiny babies, snatching choking hazards from toddlers... and you will be just relaxing in a chair with some lemonade. ;)

and if you do want to go for that big family, you will have two bigger kids to help you with #3, etc!

and don't let anyone scare you about two in diapers... it is great to know exactly where all the poop is going instead of cleaning up potty accidents! ;)

can't wait to hear more great news!

And I second the rec for Floradix/Floravital. I recently found out I am anemic after suspecting it for some time. I definitely think it has helped and I have had no unpleasant side effects.

Wife_and_mommy

I third the Floradix. It also comes in pill form which I prefer. It's kind of expensive but doesn't have the side effects the scripts have, ie. constipation.
