We showed up this morning, the kids in "uniform" complete with dog tags and their mobility forlder. We first had a mass briefing at the base theater:

(waiting for things to start)
Then we were bused out to "Dock 9" where we got to walk around and check out some of the different agencies:

From there, we went outside to see more items on display:

The kids in a fire truck (my DD found a button that made a buzzing noise. One of the firefighters said "I thought we turned everything off". The other guy thought so too. Leave it to a 2 yo to find the distress button!!)
After we were done outside, we were taken back inside and given briefings about finance, medical, chaplains, public health, mental health and cultural awareness things. My DD was freaking out most of the time because she just wanted to go ride on the "blue bus" again (the bus that drove us out to the dock). Once we were done with all of the briefings, we got back on the blue bus and were taken out to the base park for the "Homecoming". There were signs and cheering and all kinds of hoop-lah for the "deployers". We were then treated to a gourmet lunch of hot-dogs and melted ice cream!
The kids had a lot of fun and did not want to leave! Here are a few pictures of the kids trying on my kevlar helmet right before bath time:

And this is what I came home to a few weeks ago when I was TDY for 1.5 weeks. I thought it was the sweetest thing for my DH to do with the DC!

I guess I should clarify that in the military a recall is when you get a phone call and have to report in to a certain place at a certain time...not recalled as in Mattel toys!!
So we are at home tonight and my children get a recall that they are to report to the base theater tomorrow morning at 0900 hours for "Operation Hero's". They are to be in "uniform" (a t-shirt that we were given) with dog tags (again, an issued item) and their mobility folder (a folder that contains all of their official papers like shot records, General Orders, etc).
Once we show up at the theater, they will receive a general briefing about their "deployment" and then we will go over to "Dock 9" for out processing and everything just like a real deployment line. There will also be displays over there from the fire dept, EOD (bomb squad), the EMT's will have the ambulance, there will be the police department with some of their "toys" as well as a few missiles and bombs that our planes carry.
After that, we then will head over to the base park where the children will receive a "homecoming" party complete with free hot dogs, ice cream, dunking booths, bouncy castles and lots of other fun things for them.
I think this is a great program to give the kids an idea about what their parents do in order to get ready to deploy and seeing as how I am leaving soon, I think it will be a great opportunity for us to explain to my DC what mommy is doing and where she is going in a way that they can understand and relate to.
Have a great weekend!!
