Some truck part company located in British Columbia keeps sending me faxes in the middle of the night. My phone number used to be for a car related business and was on their fax list. I called them several times and send them 4 e-mails telling them this is a private residence and we want to be removed from the list. They assured us several times that they did remove us from the list. I have an e-mail from the owner telling me he would take care of it. But sure enough Monday night at 4 am the phone rings, I expect some really bad news, both kids wake up and there's another fax. If I hang up the stupid program tries again.
Any ideas what I could do about this?

Can you get a lawyer to draft a letter to them? That might light a fire under their butts to take care of it. The cross-border thing makes it harder, though. Maybe call the Canadian consulate? Basically, official attention might scare them into fixing the problem. It soudns really frustrating - hugs to you!

Can you have their phone number blocked from your phone?

and he tells me worse things have happened to him. He sent me a link to his website so I could find out his son died at 24. I'm sorry but I still don't want my phone to ring in the middle of the night. How hard could it be to take on number of the distribution list.

I found the TeleZapper in a dollar store about a year ago and thought that I had nothing to lose by trying it. It works wonders. It simply emits a beep that tells the computer sending out faxes and connecting you to telemarketers that your line is now disconnected. So, the computer boots you off the list automatically and never calls you again. I am so glad I found it.

File a complaint with the CRTC:

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/welcome.htm

They are the Canadian FCC.

Ohh, that would burn me up. Four in the morning? I'd be writing their number on the stall walls of every nasty bathroom in town. For a good time call....

And, I'm sorry for his loss, but what the hell does that have to do with what's going on? Strange.

Anyway, you've gotten some great advice. Just wanted to say chin up and I hope the calls stop soon!

I posted about the TeleZapper here last year and people pointed out that they don't make them anymore. They still work, though! We got a new phone number recently and the only way we knew the phone service was on was because a telemarketer called right away. We got out our Telezapper and spent two weeks answering hangups (which is what you get when a marketer computer is "zapped.") Now our volume of calls is waaaaay down. We signed up for the donotcall list but that takes 90 days, so I really think it's the Zapper. You can still get them used and I highly recommend them!

That said, they only work with autodialers. Not sure this company is using that. I like the Canadian FCC idea posted below. And one more four AM call and I would contacting a lawyer for sure.

Great idea. I hope I can find one cheap. I hate to spend money on this but if that's the only option. We don't have any problems with telemarketers usually.

Thanks for that website. I filed a complaint with them. I knew there had to be something like the FCC in Canada. I just didn't know what to google for.

Is it totally immoral of me to imagine the scenario in which you post his link here an let all of us spam his grumpy self? With polite "do not call" notes only, of course. Nothing on his level.

I'm just enjoying the image of his face when he opens his in-box and/or checks his messages/faxes and has that sinking "What have I done?!" feeling.
