How do I determine the best TYPE of laser out there, in terms of the most effective technology to do the job? I have been through two rounds of LHR since 2000, and it is still not gone. I want to make sure I find the most cutting edge laser before I do it again. My most recent experience was with the Candela GentleLASE. Another dermatologist in the area uses the Palomar Pulsed Light.

Laser hair removal just doesn't work completely for some people. That was something that was stressed to me by the dermatologist who did mine. The effective is only like 85% if I remember correctly.

I know little to nothing about it either but do remember reading that more than a few sessions are sometimes necessary for complete removal. You might just need some more sessions?

I love them most when they are sleeping.--Me

That's my understanding--that at least 4 sessions are needed for long-term results. And that's for the best candidates, fair skin and dark hair.

I was told that I would need to have 4 to 6 and possibly even 8 laser session for the hair to be gone completely. It has to do with hair growth cycles.

The gold standard for LHR is the alexandrite laser, 755 nm. There are many companies that market this laser under different names. It usually takes at least 5 sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart depending on body part treated, and you must be closely shaven for best results. If your hair growth is hormonally driven, it will never completely stop. Hormones change with age, so pregnancy and normal aging can affect hair regrowth.

HTH!

PS - IPL (intensed pulsed light) does not work great for hair removal. It isn't even a laser.

thank you - I will research the LHR.

I should clarify - I have had two SETS of sessions - the first was 4 treatments in 2000, and then most recently I had about 6 treatments over the last year. Very frustrating when I have fair skin and dark hair- the optimal patient.
