My mom died last night.

So my mom died last night after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past eight years. Right now, I am doing OK. I am concerning myself with flowers and music for the service. It has felt like I have been without a mother for at least 2 years, because the Alzheimer's was very advanced.

Dave and I visited her on Friday and I am glad I had that time to be there. It sucks because she had a stroke and was unable to swallow.

On top of that John had a fever this morning and was very uncomforable, crying, struggling to get comfortable or sleeping all morning. We are going to miss some fun activities planned for the weekend because of the funeral service.

My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's as well. She had problems that started about eight years before her death too, and then she also ultimately had a severe stroke, and we didn't keep her hooked up to food and water. It was awful, but it was definitely her time. I still miss her, but I felt like I missed her when she was alive because she was so changed by Alzheimer's.

My mom passed away after a very brief illness in March at a much too young age (she was 55), so I have a sense for your loss.

Take care of yourself and allow yourself to work through your grieving process. It may seem like you've had the past 8 years to prepare yourself for this, but as I'm finding out, unexpected things come out of no-where.
