View Full Version : Snowman birthday in December or is that still taboo?

I asked a similar question last year but its changed a little.

Bella's has a December birthday and yet again, she really doesn't have a favorite show or theme- she likes everything her older sister likes and I am not about to have a High School Musical party for a 3 yr old! :)

Would it be ok to have a snowman theme? It is a winter theme and not a Christmas theme so does that make it ok? The way I see it, its like having a beach party for summer birthdays.

Any thoughts? Please chime in- even if you disagree with me! :)

I think it sounds fun. There must be a ton of snowman-related stuff you could get. Why not?

I too don't know why a Snowman-themed party in December would be taboo.

It's a birthday party, not a Christmas party, and I think a Snowman theme is a great idea.

I have a Dec birthday, as does my mom and DD#2. I think as long as you avoid Christmas (or any specific holiday) for the most part you are alright. It's okay once in awhile, but not every year. JMHO

I don't believe acknowledging the weather has ever been taboo. Unless you live in So Florida and the kids think you're taunting them.

I think a snowman theme is cute... as long as your DD is into it! It's no different than a snowflake party or a penguin party!

If for some reason you decide not to do a snowman party you could even just chose a COLOR. Pink or Purple or whatever your DD likes most at the moment! Makes it really easy!

Make marshmellow snowmen.... or let the kids make their own (if you're brave enough)
Marshmellows are the body and head icing to hold the parts together, pretzel sticks for arms gum drop hat- mini m&m eyes and buttoms, etc... can be made standing on a graham cracker.

this might be too christmas-y with the trees

Sounds fun to me! I don't see why you couldn't or shouldn't have a snowman themed party for Bella.

I've done 2-3 summery/ beachy themed parties for ds' summer party so I see no problem at all with a snowman theme. I think it's cute. :)

Why would a snowman theme be taboo? Just wondering? I think it is super cute.

I could see using a religious holiday as a theme as being a little iffy, but a snowman is just seasonal.

Well, we do live in Arizona! :) But she's too young to understand the irony.

I love the idea of a snowman party! We're going to be doing the Christmas birthday thing soon, so my ears perk up whenever I hear the topic being discussed.

I think it's the exact same thing as having a beach themed party in the summer. Post pictures afterwards! :)

Sorry, I should have clarified. I know that Christmas themes are not ok for December birthdays since Dec birthdays already get overshadowed from the holidays. I understand that its best to keep them completely separate to make it more special. So, the problem is not the religious nature of Christmas at all- just trying to keep it separate.

I don't think of snowmen/snow as tied to a particular holiday, although yes, Christmas is in December, which in the northern hemisphere means that it is traditionally snowy during that time of year. My DS1's birthday is in January and I have been doing a loose snowflake/snowmen/winter scenes theme every year since he was born.

Yes, you should do a snowman party, how fun! Even if you are from AZ. Kids love fantasy. Let them dream. Maybe you can rent a fake snowblower somewhere! Have fun and won't it get everyone in the spirit!
