I hired our neighbor's daughter to watch my son every
Monday for 1.5 hours while I am at our Daisy Troop meetings.

How much would you pay a 14-15 year old for 1.5 hours?

Edited to add- The babysitter will be at my house from 4:15pm
to 5:45pm. She is not in charge of dinner. Just watching
and playing with my son.

Thanks for your help!

We pay our 14 year old daughter $4 an hour to babysit our 4 year old son. However, some friends of ours pay her $8 an hour to watch their 5 and 8 year old daughters. Personally, I think they're paying her too much, but they think it's fair. This is in Seattle, btw.

I would suggest you talk to her and see what she charges other people (if she babysits for other people). Failing that, I would pick a number you think is fair and ask if she's comfortable with that.

I would pay for 2 hours, then, at $5 or $6/hour for one child That's my market.

I would pay her $10 for the 1.5 hours.

I have a pair of 14-yr old twins who watch DS and another child sometimes (while we're in the house doing other things). They charge $8/hr for both of them. I actually feel like that's not enough and often give them a bit more (since they're splitting the money)... I guess it depends on the going rate in the area. I'd ask her what she charges. I'd probably give her $10 for an hour and a half.

$5-6/ hour- on the higher end if you would like to have her available for other things (she may get a higher rate from someone else so you want to reel her in if she has potential :)).

According to this document for the state of Rhode Island,
it looks like 14-15 year olds who work less than 24 hours
a week should get paid $5.55 a hour.

I have an unofficial $10 minimum for neighborhood-kid babysitters and a $15/$20 minimum for grown ups.

At some point, I feel like I have to make it worth their time to come at all for short jobs.

In general, I'd pay a 14 yr old $5/hr for one child $8 for more kids. I have 3 young kids (3 yr old twins and a 5 yr old) and most adult sitters charge $10-$12 an hour. Drives me nuts since my kids are in bed at 7:30 and the sitter just watches TV all night.
