I am beside myself. DS has been dx with hydrocephalus -- enlarged ventricles in his brain ... we are waiting for an MRI to see what is causing the issue -- the ct scan showed a white mass which we hope is not a tumor. Anyone btdt? DS is scheduled for surgery for a shunt in 2 weeks. Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts.
TIA

praying for you and DS...

my DD had this in utero, but the blockage resolved on its own at birth...so i know not all blockages are cancerous. i hope you get good news with the MRI. have they done a spinal tap?

Hillary-

I do have experience with this, but it was in-utero with Sophie's twin brother. The hydrocephaly was caused by aqueductal stenosis in both hemispheres of his brain. Thankfully, it sounds as if it is not as severe in your DS's case.

Many, many hugs and prayers. I have walked in your shoes.

Hillary I just want to send you a huge hug. There was a time before Kate was born that the doctors thought she may have hydrocephalus and I was frantic with worry. The more reading I did about it, it seems that many, many cases are completely treatable and controlable with the shunt. I pray this is this case for you! Please keep us posted.

This is similar to our experience, except that it was for a few months after DD was born that her pediatrician was concerned. I was also beside myself with worry, but like Susan said, there are so many cases where the hydrocephalus is completely treatable. It's amazing what they can do.

You and your baby boy will be in my thoughts! I hope he is feeling well physically (did he have symptoms that led the doctors to suspect hydrocephalus?) and that you are OK, too. Huge hugs to both of you.

Hillary,

The procedures now are so amazing and effective. Even the shunt placement itself is supposed to be a relatively uncomplicated procedure.

Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted.

THinking of you and your family. Shunts can really work well for a lot of kids. Obviously the key is finding the cause for now and going from there.

You and your little one will absolutely will be in our thoughts.
