There have been a lot of toy recalls regarding the lead. I am just wondering whether lead is also used in books/magazines printing. Majority of the children books are made in China.

Anyone knows? TIA!

I can't attest to the policies/situation in China, I can only tell you what I know from working in the printing industry here in the US. The majority of major ink producers began phasing out heavy metals and lead from inks back in the 80s or maybe even late 70s. I know we occasionally had to order special effect inks for clients that still contained heavy metal or lead, but those were rarely used because less toxic alternatives could usually be found.

So in other words, yes it is possible China could be using lead ink to print children's books. Is it actually being done? I'm not sure.
