This may be obvious, but I thought I'd pass it along.

Most of my daughter's clothes are bought cheaply, either secondhand or at discount stores, but I like to splurge on a couple of cute super-nice outfits. What I've realized is that as much as I like woven fabrics for their look, the knit clothes fit acceptably for much longer. Woven fabrics have a much smaller tolerance for fit - they don't hang as gracefully when the clothing is too big, and it becomes tight across the shoulders/arms before it is really "too small".

So, I suggest when choosing between two cute outfits, go with the knit dresses and shirts, then buy woven overalls or jumpers with big armholes. This is especially useful for special occasion clothes, where you want to be able to use the outfit as long as possible.
