What books are good to read to DC about the potty? We have one that belonged to my nephews, but I think it is wierd.
Any other ideas to help make the potty familiar? I know it is early still at 21 months, but DS was in the tub the other night and passing gas. He got real antsy to get out and I could tell he had to poop. (usually he never wants out of the tub!) I started to worry about having a floater in the tub! Uck!! Well, he held it until I dried him off and put a diaper on. Then within a minute or two, he pooped. I figure he must have some awareness of needing to go, so I want to get a potty and let him get used to seeing it.
TIA!

My daughter is still not potty-trained, but we have been reading the books together, and she's definitely getting into the concepts, so I figure we're making progress.

One book I really like is You Can Go to the Potty by Dr. Sears

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0316788880/qid=1069531157/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-8852790-7716659?v=glance&s=books

I like the level of detail it provides (talks about what is expected, and how it feels, but doesn't bog down in excessive details), the tone (warm and encouraging), and the illustrations. Plus it covers both using a potty and using the toilet, so you're covered no matter which one you're using. DD seems to like it a lot too.

Another huge fave in our household is Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0916291456/qid=1069530772/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-8852790-7716659

Some reviewers whine that it is too explicit (talks about big animals making big poops, and small animals making small poops) and that it does not make a strong enough point of TELLING the child to use the potty, but DD thinks it is just hilarious, and demands it again and again, and I figure it's helping her figure out that this is a universal reality, not just something unique to her. Plus, anyone who turns down a chance for an occasional laugh during this process is missing out!!

Hope those help - good luck!!

There were three books that really helped us out.

My Potty Book for Girls (there is a boys' version too):

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2TZECO6LED&isbn=0789448459&itm=2

This was good because it is simple and basic and has lots of good photographs of girls using the potty. It's a good 'getting used to the idea' book.

Too Big for Diapers (starring Ernie)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0375810455/qid=1069535577/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-1430692-1348909?v=glance&s=books

This was a good intermediate book and it helped that it has Ernie in it since my daughter is a huge Sesame Street fan. It shows all the steps of potty using including wiping and washing hands.

I Have to Go (starring Grover)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0394860519/qid=1069535692/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-1430692-1348909?v=glance&s=books

This is a little more sophisticated but it illustrates the concept that when you have to go you GO! This was one of the last concepts we got down so it was a good capstone book. Again there was the nice Sesame Street connection.

Good luck!

Ds has a Baby Bjorn Potty which sits in our bathroom and he likes to sit on it (fully clothed) or when he has to poop. He rarely wants to sit on it naked, but we offer the option before baths.

Ds LOVES the Once Upon a Potty book (we change most of the words...they are very strange). The photos are really good for him. We also have "Everyone Poops."
