View Full Version : Toddler fork/knife flatware - HELP!

06-13-2004, 08:35 PM
I am trying to find some flatware for my just turned 4 year old. I do not want to get anything with characters on it and would like something with a knife so she can learn to cut. Does anyone have any suggestions where to find toddler friendly/small children friendly flatware? I did see some on a British website (www.urchin.co.uk - I think) that I like very much. Shipping and the exchange rate make them expensive. Any ideas is appreciated.

Thank you - I did check those out but they are slightly too big. I think those are great for 6 years on. Still, good for back up if I can't think of any other ideas!

Betty Crocker sells Oneida flatware for kids. They have some w/ characters and some without. It's really nice! Link: http://www.bettycrocker.com/BettyStore/Store/CatSearch.aspx?Category=KS.KFW&Catalog=BettyCatalog I believe the preschool set includes a knife too.

My MIL gave us a set of Onieda childrens dishes. They came with a Choo Choo plate, placemat, cup and utensils. I'm not sure where to look but it's possible they have other sets. The utensils were small and perfect for him. That also sounds like something www.babybox.com would carry. If not, e-mail them. The owner is super sweet and I bet she could find some for you.

Okay, I always feel sort of cheesy doing this, but I work for Crate & Barrel and ended up buying demi flatware (it's located in the gadget section). My kids love it because it looks like grown-up stuff, and the quality is really great.

You can see it here:

That design is called Nordic, and there is an all-silver one called Bucktown that's a little more sophisticated:

The only caveat is that the knife is really a spreader, so it's more like a butter knife, but should be okay for cutting a little piece of chicken or meatloaf, etc.

OHHHHHH. Crate and Barrel! My favourite store! Is it as cool to work there as it looks? ;)

Some days are better than others, but the culture is great. I loved working in the store, and would probably have stayed there if I could have made a better living. It was like working with two dozen best friends; people got along really well (for the most part) and we had a great time with our customers. It's really fun to work at a place people love that much, and makes you have a lot of pride in your work.

Of course, the associate discount is a nice bonus, too!

The one near me only had the orange Mumsa ones in stock.

Good Luck!

I found a First Years set with spoon, fork, and knife in bright colors, no characters, at BRU. They come in a plastic container for traveling.
