We are looking for a car seat for our tall, thin four year old. I am not sure the Husky will fit in our car and so we are looking at the Marathon by Britax. I am confused though.....is it true that in the Marathon the child's shoulders can be above the top harness slots as long as the child's ears are below the top of the seat?

Also, has anyone had luck with a Husky in a small car like a Subaru Imprezza or a Saturn SL?

Thanks so much!

Shoulders must be below the harness slot at all times for forward facing. In March, I called Britax to verify their instructions about the ears being below the top of the seat. A male employee said it was ok for the shoulders to be above the highest harness slot but the ears must be below the the top of the car seat.

HOWEVER, I called yesterday to double check. A female employee said that NEVER should the shoulders be above the harness slot. I was misinformed and there were miscommunication earlier this year but hopefully now that word has been sent out that the shoulders must be BELOW the harness slot.

Was checking out the Britax specifications. Top of ears below the shell height limit they list for Rear Facing (only). Shoulders below the slot is for Forward Facing. This seat can go either way so both employees are correct after a fashion.
For forward facing, the limit is 49 inches height (65 lbs) in the Britax literature. [But note that some cars cannot take that much weight on the LATCH connections, you may have to use the seat belts.]

I have a Husky in a Toyota Prius (like an Echo...subcompact) and while you DO have to turn it sideways to get it through the door, it DOES fit like a charm...and I slightly prefer it to our Marathon when Forward facing in that car, because there is no base, and it's lower and easier for the child to climb in and out of. The Marathon works great, though, and is MUCH better if you ever need to get three people or seats in the back (which is NOT possible with the Husky...nothing goes right next to THAT monster, lol). The Husky also fits in Neons and Escorts very well, and your car might be listed at www.carseatdata.org
Also, one last thing...check out these pictures of Andrew in all these seats (the Elite is NOT the Husky...rather, the Traveller Plus is the same size as the Husky, and will give you an idea of it's size...there are lots of pages that should be some help to you on this site) http://pages.ivillage.com/momika/carseatphotos/id24.html

Hope that helps a little!
