Safest outboard side?

Is there any research or opinions on this? I would think behind the driver would be safest b/c of making left-turns, but I've not heard mention of that. Right now Ds is in the passenger side so the driver can access him. (in Dh's car b/c he can't be in the center. Most of the time he's in the center in my car).

Statistically, there's no difference, so do whatever's most convenient when you can't use the center :)
