Hi - my sister was recently in a car accident where she was rear ended. Her vehicle was stopped and she was struck from the rear and pushed into the vehicle in front of her. Her vehicle was deemed a loss. She has two car seats in her van for her two sons, neither of whom were with her at the time (the seats were empty). I know you are supposed to replace or at least assess seats that are involved in accidents, but am wondering if this is the case when the seats are not in use. Can anyone advise?

Thanks so much,

Becky

Hi Becky. Yes, she should replace those seats and the insurance company of the driver who hit her should pay for the new ones.

Her car seat manuals will state replacement guidelines and if she has misplaced those, almost all manufacturers have their replacement guidelines online nowadays.

great - thanks for the help. The insurance company has not offered or inquired about carseats so she will be adding this to her already substantial claim. thanks so much.
