Is it safe to use carseat protectors? Do you get a tight fit? I have been looking for some sort of toy bag to keep next to my daughters carseat and all I have been finding are ones that are attached to a carseat protector. When we had our carseat checked (we have a Britax Marathon) they said not to keep anything between the carseats because you won't get a tight fit. So I am hesitant to do so.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jen. It's not advised that you put anything underneath the car seat because it could interfere with the installation. About the thickest thing I would put under a car seat is the Prince Lionheart *Original* Seat Saver. They make one called the Stage Two or Two Stage or something like that and it is so thick and stiff that I always just tell parents to return it and get their $20 back. Also, sometimes seat savers are nylon and can be slippery, so you'll want to watch out for that.

I would say use your judgement on it, but know that it's not recommended. Remember that toys in the car can be projectiles in a crash and that little toy that weighs 8 oz. suddenly will weigh 15 lbs. in a 30 mph crash. Ouch!

How about this one (Kid's Backseat Organizer): http://www.improvementscatalog.com/product.asp?product=262251BLUzz&dept%5Fid=12530&cm_ven=NexTag&cm_ite=12530&code=macs=NEXTAG
It has a lid and can be fastened to a seat belt as well.

Well, I like that it can be attached with a seat belt, but all that stuff that's on it will come hurtling toward the front seat passengers in a frontal crash. That drink bottle they showed in the drink holder would hurt! Let's say it weighs 16 oz. (solid, I don't know how to figure out weight in fluid oz., lol). The formula is force = weight x speed. So that 16 oz. drink in a 30 mph crash into a lightpole (which seems to be happening a lot in my neighborhood lately) would hit you weighing 30 lbs.--enough to snap your neck, I'd think.

I just weighed 1 of my ds's Hot Wheels cars and it was 1 oz., so in the same crash, it would weigh 1.875 lbs. and would probably give you a nice lump on the back of the head.

So, while it might be a good place to keep things stored inside, I wouldn't put things outside at all and wouldn't let the kids pull anything out.
