View Full Version : Has she outgrown her Wizard at just 44 pounds?

My daughter turned 5 in August. She weighs around 43-44 pounds and is about 43 inches tall. Her torso is very long (short legs like mom). Her Wizard harness slot is as high as it will go, and her shoulders are now at or maybe even slightly above the slot. Her head is still positioned properly within the side-impact wings. Is it time to get her a Parkway booster? Once her shoulders are clearly above the harness slot she's outgrown it, right? That's what the instructions indicate, but I know sometimes techs will say you can go a little longer with things like this. Could she go a 1/2" above?

I just wish she has a shorter torso so she could stay in it until she's 6 at least. She used a backless Turbobooster the other day for a short trip, and it seemed so much less safe. I hope the Parkway will give me a better feeling.

It happens.. a long torso is a long torso :(. Unless you have side impact airbags, a backless booster really actually IS not very safe http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2005-09/chop-htb090905.php

My dd is just about too tall for her Marathon at 45 inches, and wearing a 6/6X shirt.. the Wizard is a bit taller, but I haven't tried her in it recently....

I've seen the side crash tests of the Parkway and they are phenomenal...the dummy is moving forward then slammed into sideways at high speed, and that head stays IN those wings :)

Thanks. To clarify, are you stating that once they are above the slot, even slightly, they've outgrown it, or is it okay to be maybe a 1/2" over? She's right at it now. Waiting till she's really over it could buy me several months (or 3 days if she has another growth spurt!).

By the way, we do have side airbags (2005 Sienna), but I still don't like the backless. We got it for emergencies and have only used it a handful of times. Will be getting a pink Parkway asap.

Yeah, she can go a smidgen over the top slots, as long as she's not actually able to lean forward very far out of the seat, then she's not TOO tall (when slots are WAY too low, kids can just lean right out of the seats, that's really pretty obvious that it's not safe...if you aren't seeing that, you're fine, she has good head protection and won't have any more head excursion than she would in a booster).

Vote on the Tiffany Parkway, we've been able to get them to make the Cowmoo covers before, we can pray it'll work again http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-ppcarseats&msg=58542.1

If not, well Cougar or Woodstock are purty cute!

They've already started making it in Tiffany! I saw it online somewhere. Also, I called my local BuyBuy Baby, and they expect to receive them within 4 weeks. They were on order.

They made it just for the trade show, to tempt us and drive us insane. I hope BBB is right and it's really coming, though, that'd be SO sweet!
