Just wanted to let you know I found the Apex at BRU but almost missed it. The staff was clueless of course. (Where do they get these people?) The seat was on the very end of the display models and was covered up by another product on one of those hanging displays. The seat is red and black (which I'd not seen on the web) and on the head rest it says Alpha Elite (which I had not seen on the web and is not what I expected it to say). We haven't been able to check it out yet since we were out of town all weekend but I'll post again after we have. We drove over an hour out of our way to go to BRU to look for it and I would have been really ticked it I'd left with out it and found out later it was there all along! I paid $130 but will shop for a better deal since they have such a great return policy... or there's always resale on eBay!

One of the Apex seats listed at the Amazon.com-TRS site says Alpha Elite but the other one doesn't. It seems so dumb that they would use the same choice of words that is already used for another, completely different car seat (the Alpha Omega Elite)!?!?!

Here's the blue one:

and this one is red:

Isn't that just THE most unbelievable name??? What ARE they trying to do to the poor BRU employees, lol, they can't keep anything straight, and here one of the most popular seats has only one more word (omega) than a completely new and different seat...

The mind boggles....

Notice that the blue one says Safety First. Ditto on "the mind boggles". I'm so glad I found mine and don't have to think about it anymore! I was having nightmares. lol

So, Alison...now that you've been using it for a few days, how do you like it?

I wrote to Cosco and commented on the confusing names. This is part of the response:

"The Apex only has one name. The Lancer is the fabric that is on the
carseat. You will see different fabrics. We do not list all of our
products on the web site.

The Alpha Elite is now the name for a line of carseats.
The Apex is the Apex whether or not it is Safety 1st or Alpha Elite.
Just like a Ford is a Ford regardless if it is an Escort or Escape or
Taurus."

????????????? :O

Um...ok...sure... (but really, they are more like GM...how many names do we have to have for the Suburban? ROFL!)

We're very pleased with it. We brought it in the house to get the straps at the right height etc. We are not at the next to the highest strap with plenty of growing room. I didn't have any problem moving/adjusting them. We made a big deal about how great it was and used the race car driver angle like Julie suggested. We had to buckle Woody in a couple of times and a bear, but whatever works. I'll buckle every toy we have if it makes DS be happy with the seat! It sits very low in the seat which would make him be able to climb up but he's doing that "you gotta help me thing" and won't even get into the seat without help. He has plenty of room on the sides. It will hold several toys! I can't imagine any child not fitting in it. It hooked into the latch and tether fine just like other seats we've had. The fabric looks like it would wipe clean easily. It's by no means a Britax, but for the price we'll defintily stick with it. He doesn't seem uncomfortable at all. It has a removeable 'extra' padding that will make a big differnce in the comfort I think. I won't be long before we'll have to have another one for my Mom's van. I won't hesitate for a minute to buy the same seat.

Huh?

Shouldn't it be Cosco is to Ford as the Apex is to (whatever).

Exactly! Their reply made no sense at all!

And get this...I finally went to BRU yesterday (a 40 minute drive). They had a COSCO "Alpha Omega Elite" ($159.99 I think) right next to an "Alpha Omega" ALPHA ELITE ($139.99) and the ELITE part was right after the "Alpha Omega" part so it actually read "Alpha Omega ELITE" Sheeeeesh!

Also, they only had the black and red Apex. It says "Alpha Elite" on the box, another source of confusion. The Amazon BRU site says the blue is a BRU exclusive so why don't they have it in the store? I didn't get it as the black is not my style (rather the bright red part.)

Oh boy oh boy...I just *can't wait* for the questions rolling in next year to this effect: "I got this great seat for my baby shower, now that my baby's out of the infant seat at 7 months, can I use it? It's called the...um... Elite...Alpha Elite" "No Omega in that name?" "Nope, just Alpha Elite".

<tearing hair out in anticipation>
