DS is 4, he weighs 35 lbs and is between 38 and 40 inches tall. He's currenting in a booster (yes I know he shouldn't be b/c of his weight but it's all we had at the time). I don't like the way the booster is fitting on him with the belt straps, it seems he can wiggle out of them so I need to go back to a 5 point harness. The Britax (sp) are way out of my price range. I'm looking into the Cosco Apex 65, I'm not sure what other's out there will be the right height for us as he seems to outgrow the height of the seat before the weight.

Thanks

What is your ds's torso height? This is measured by sitting him against the wall and measuring the distance from the floor to his shoulders. If you tell us this we will be able to better reccomend a seat to fit your needs.

Thanks

Hi, after you've done what the pp said, then you can go here:
http://www.carseatdata.org/csnumbers.html to look at harness height measurements and compare that to your dc's torso height. The Britax MA/BV/Decathlon's all have 18" slots and the Husky/Regent has 19" slots. I believe I read somewhere that the Cosco Apex tallest slots are a full inch below the Britax MA which would put it at 17". That is still a bit higher than some of the other harnessed combo's that only go to 40lbs like the Evenflo Generations/Bolero (16.5"). So the Apex might work better than some of the others but not as well as the Britax unfortunately. Also note that with the Apex your car needs tall seatbacks. The headrest on the Apex is only for the child's comfort and doesn't provide any extra safety. Once your child's ears are even with the back of the vehicle's headrest then they have outgrown this seat. I hope that makes sense!

hth!

I'm quite sure he'd have lots of growing room in the Apex, it has very tall slots...these aren't my pictures, but they give a great idea how big the seat is
