I am looking for a combination seat that will keep my son in a harness well beyond 40 lbs., then convert to a belt-positioning booster. From my review of previous postings, it seems like I have two options:
- Safeguard Go Booster
- Cosco Apex 65
Have I missed any other options?
What are your recommendations regarding these options (rants/raves)?
Are these seats safe/comfortable/easy to install?
Thanks very much for your help!

We used a Go for about a week... it wasn't the easiest seat to use, though I was happy my almost-7-yo still fit in it. The Apex is better for daily use, I think (more like a seat, the headrest won't mysteriously sink, and it's easier to adjsut the straps). Of course you DO need a high seatback or headrest to use it.
How heavy is your kiddo? Maybe you just need a seat with taller top slots but that doesn't have a higher weight limit? Like the Graco Ultra Cargo or Recaro Young Sport.

My son is neither tall nor heavy. At age 4, he is only 38 ins. and 32 lbs.! He has not outgrown is beloved Britax Roundabout/Advantage, but I would like to pass it on to his baby sister, who has outgrown her infant seat. I was hoping to buy my son a new seat that could be his "last," which is why I was seeking a combination seat. However, I really do want to keep him in a harness beyond 40 lbs., because I feel it's so much safer. Thanks very much for your assessment of the Go and Apex.

I would really go for a seat that has a harness and install that you like NOW...you can hand it down later, and get him a seat that makes a better booster that will really fit him till he's 10 or so and really safe in an adult seatbelt later... really, just about any seat that performs two functions is inferior in at least one of them, I've found. (he sounds like my dd...she was still 40 pounds when she was 6 and got too tall for the Marathon... really, a Cargo or Generations would have been fine, even to 40 pounds..or even a Graco SafeSeat 2, and then get a nice side impact protective booster like the Parkway or Jane' Indy Plus later...who knows how fabulous boosters will be in the near future, and you might ultimately be happy to have another harnessed seat to hand down to the baby, since the Advantage might expire, and also they have no more replacement parts or cover for it, as it's long discontinued).
If you really want to keep him harnessed past 40 pounds, the Regent is your best bet, since he's so thin, and it has the tallest top slots...he can probably fit in it till he's 9 or 10 and it expires...but that would be after the Advantage expires or gets outgrown, so you'll still need a new seat anyway...make sense?
Just some things to think about...

Thanks, Julie. You made a great point that I should buy the seat that makes the most sense for my son NOW, instead of trying to find a seat that will fit him until he goes off to college! Back to square one....
