View Full Version : 6 year old in Parkway. Should I go back to the 5 pt. harness?

My son just turned 6 and has been in the Parkway for about a year. He is around 48lbs, and is about 47 inches. We have the Wizard in my dads car and was hesitant about giving up the 5pt harness. Now, I'm thinking about the Britax Regent. (or that Safeguard one)

I know my son is safe. But I hate the thought that he only has the car's seatbelt to protect him in an accident. I feel the 5 pt. is like extra insurance.

Am I over reacting?
thanks.

I'd leave him, as long as he sits properly in it at all times :) Seatbelt failure is super-rare, and notice that the 6 yo dd even in the misused Graco walked away from that same crash without a scratch.

Thank you Julie!

yeah, thinking about how I always seem to be yelling "sit back in your seat!" He leans down alot. sigh.

Thanks for the reminder of the other dd in that booster. I just feel like he is so vulnerable in our little saturn, yk? lol.

Yeah, I do know... I much prefer my kids in Huskies in 'the less safe' car. At least you have a couple weeks to think about it while they are all out of stock everywhere...if you really want one, go for it when you can (my 9 and 7 yo's still do use theirs and even they have to be reminded to sit properly in boosters!)

There is a store locally here that has the Regent in all fabric choices for about $245. So it's here, but I have yet to save for the 'car seat fund' lol, which is what I had to do to save for the Wizard.

My dh is surprisingly on board for putting him back in a 5 pt. But I will still be thinking about it.

thanks!
