We just started looking for an umbrella/lightweight stroller for our 2.5 yr old (~34" and ~31 lbs). We assumed the next step in strollers would be a simple umbrella stroller, but then we discovered that most umbrella strollers have a weight limit of 33/35 pounds.

We're looking for something simple, basket is not necessary and no tray/bar is preferred. We'd also prefer a 3 point harness, but it looks like many of the 5 point harnesses can be used as a 3 point harness. We saw some Maclaren's at BRU yesterday, but thought the metal frame in the back was ugly and made it impossible to use the basket. We'd also like to be able to use it for another year or so, so a higher weight limit is good.

Does anyone have any recommendations for these criteria?

Thanks,
Carole

Inglesina has a great new lightweight stroller called the "Swift." It has more features than you're looking for, but the price isn't bad. Here's a link:

Unfortunately they don't include the the weight limit, but it might be worth checking into.

I am almost certain that the inglesina swift has a weight limit of 35 lbs. I have a maclaern volo for my 2 year old and I love it. Did you see this stroller when you were at BRU http://www.babytrend.com/Strollers/stroller1802.htm? (They are only available at BRU.) It has a weight limit of 45 lbs which is high for an umbrella stroller. I can't remeber how much they cost but I know they are much less than a mac.

I too have used maclarens, they steer quite well with toddler in them, they hold 40lbs. The volo is the most basic and has pretty good basket access imo/ime. The carry strap is also very handy & i can fold the stroller while holding my toddler.

Plus as suggested the babytrend models hold 45lbs

Or kidco holds 50lbs

Thanks for all the suggestions. We went back to BRU and ending up getting the EuroTrend. It would have been nice if the shoulder straps were removable, but we'll figure something out. We haven't actually used it, but it should be much better than our current large stroller. Thanks again!
