I posted this in the Baby Bargains forum, but then I remembered this one :)

We bought our nephew a Brio starter set for his second birthday. My SIL says he doesn't play with it much yet and she is interested in getting him another train set.

I prefer the Brio type because it's great for their imagination (and based on my dd, he will grow into it) but she wants something mechanized with tracks that stay together. Any ideas?

I thought FP made a Little People trainset, but I can't find it!

ETA: This is the one, but it seems to be sold only in the UK

Is there something similar in the U.S.?

The FP one is here:

Very easy set up - my DD has been able to work with the pieces since Chrismas (26 months). She doesn't always make closed loops, but the train doesn't mind and will slowly meander down the hall trackless :)! We have a Brio-like train set for her also and this one suits her better for now because it doesn't fall over when you bump it. She LOVES the Thomas the train tables that they have set up at Barnes & Noble, so I think if we had the room for a permanent set up that she would prefer the Brioesque one.

For now though the FB (GeoTrax) wins hands down. Points to note 1) this works fine without batteries (you can push the train along without damaging it) 2) the train won't 'derail' (and believe me DH has been trying to get this thing to crash) 3) even with batteries it doesn't automatically make noise.
