My FIL has his heart set on getting our DD a hobby / spring horse for Christmas (she'll be 2 1/2 then). He's been talking about this for a year, and is very excited about it. I hate to disappoint him, but I am concerned about safety with this toy. Anyone have any thoughts? I read some reviews on amazon, and it sounds like the biggest problem is tipping (from bouncing/"riding" to fast or when climbing on). Does anyone have any experience with hobby horses? Are there some out there that are better than others? Thanks!

We have a BIG spring horse and my 26 mo old LOVES it!! My 6.5 year old worries me on it because she rocks it hard enough to lift the ends off the floor. My 2 year old is careful about getting on and off and so far hasn't has a problem. She LOVES it and is such a goof on it that I laugh every time she rides! :D

Angela,

Thanks for the info! It sounds like maybe I just need to be sure it's a toy our DD uses with supervision :) What kind/brand of hobby horse do you have? Have you been pleased with it's durability?

Thanks,
Maura

Oops, just now saw you replied to this!

Ours is a Flexible Flyer and it's HUGE! It's for kids up to about 70 lbs. :D My sister and I bought it for our niece when she was about 3 and she's now 13 and my girls have inherited it from her and her little sister. So, it's on the 4th kid and going strong! The only thing wrong with it is that the reins came off years ago. :D

I had one as a kid and mine have one also...basically it's a parent-stay-with-me type toy but otherwise most kids love the bouncey concept.

Ours is by hedstrom, the swingset company>? :)
